WHAT IS SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION?
Dictionary.com says that search engine optimization is “the process of maximizing the number of visitors to a particular website by ensuring that the site appears high on the list of results returned by a search engine.’ The word ranking is a synonym for search engine optimization.
Search engine optimization, is, according to Wikipedia
the process of affecting the online visibility of a website or a web page in a web search engine’s unpaid results—often referred to as “natural”, “organic”, or “earned” results.
However, the concept also means that the website, or in this case, YouTube video, is attracting the right kind of visitors, or targeted visitors who are seeking content.
Optimizing a YouTube video
There is no difference when it comes to optimizing, or ranking videos on YouTube. There are two categories that search for content on YouTube – humans and the search engine spiders.
Search engine spiders like the Google bot are particularly important because they are looking for specific information or meta data. Meta data refers to the video ‘s title, description, tags and thumbnail. The most important thing is to be relevant in order to allow the robots to index or catalogue your video so that it can show up in search.
Secondly, we want our videos to rank high in the search engines. In other words, we want the videos to appear on the first page of search, to allow you an opportunity to be discovered by hungry seekers.
